We sponsored the Dallas GiveCamp again over the first weekend of October by donating free hosting services to the participating charities. GiveCamps are weekend-long events where software developers, designers, analysts, and project managers donate their time to create software and databases for nonprofit organizations. We love working with Patrick Swain at Slalom Consulting, and all the rest of the generous volunteers at the Dallas GiveCamp.
The 2016 charities included:
The mission of the Dallas Police Youth Foundation is to support the youth outreach efforts of the Dallas Police Department as they engage and mentor our kids to become future community leaders. DPD youth programs include: Dallas Police Athletic League, Blue In The School, Junior Police Academy and the Dallas Police Explorer Program.
Allies in Service works for their community of service members, veterans, and their families to have access to quality health care, education, safe and affordable housing choices, and meaningful employment.
By serving at risk youth through a one-to-one mentoring program, Foundation For C.H.O.I.C.E. creates opportunities for a college education through professionally supported relationships, inspiring the student to make positive choices for their future.
Lovepacs was born out of a shared desire to help children in our community. In November 2011, the four founding families were made aware of 6 kids at Camey Elementary in The Colony who were being sent home from school every Friday with a backpack of food because they were not getting enough to eat on the weekend. After talking to the school counselor, we found out many of these kids were going to be hungry over the Thanksgiving holiday, when they were out of school for a week.
If you’re a developer, designer or project manager in the Dallas area and want to help, we encourage you to participate next year.
If you’d like to donate to one of the charities, they accept donations through their site.
We look forward to working with the Dallas GiveCamp again!
